Description |
Carved root club, with chief's head, and an eagle. It is painted and etched with a floral motif on the handle. Unusually large and colorful. The head of the club has six black painted "horns" (polished root tips), Indian head with full feathered war-bonnet, eagle head with open beak and carved tongue. The chip carved shaft has a tall leafy plant on the front, with a bright yellow flower. Turtle and arrows, chip carved lozenge motif. The back shows crossed arrows, zig-zag, leafy sprig, "lightning bolt" - arrow, carved arrowheads. The top and bottom of the shaft are decorated with chip carved zig-zags. Birchbark is left unpeeled at the base of the handle. Polychrome primarily turquoise, yellow and red. |
